The Company

Delivering premium quality products
to our valued customers all around the world

Our Company
We are headquartered in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland - right in the middle of the N-Atlantic. Our products come from all over this vast ocean area - fished in the waters at the very west of the N-Atlantic along the Canadian coast, to the east part of the Barents Sea and all the way north of Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean. And on that route, we harvest both Greenlandic as well as Icelandic fishing grounds.

Together with affiliated companies the group forms a vertically integrated operation including deep-sea fishing vessels processing and freezing on-board, fishing vessels bringing fresh catch for peeling, land-based processing, and marketing of our carefully procured seafood.

We specialize in the delicious sweet succulent coldwater prawn (Pandalus borealis), both frozen at sea ready packed, as well as cooked and peeled on shore. In addition, we also offer Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides), American Plaice (Hippoglossoides platessoides) and Cod (Gadus morhua).

All our products are subject to comprehensive quality checks, both at sea and in our BRC accredited facility. State of the art technologies ensure accurate and swift handling and processing of the catch to best maintain the original quality straight from the sea.

We strive to provide seamless service and stable supply of premium quality products to our valued customers all around the world.

Our mission is to provide excellent long-term value to our partners in a responsible way.
Our Story
Icelandic Export Center Ltd was established in 1972 by Óttar Yngvason, a practicing lawyer at that time fascinated by the possibility of harvesting delicious seafood from the Arctic seas. In the first quarter of a century the company marketed seafood from the Icelandic waters only - mainly coldwater prawns, scallops, and groundfish. In the late 1990's the company expanded to market seafood caught from various other fishing grounds in the North-Atlantic. Today our primary focus is on marketing and selling the coldwater prawn specie (Pandalus borealis) harvested across the North-Atlantic.

Over the last half a century the tasks have transformed with affiliated processing and fishing companies as well as with new technology. Improved fishing methods, automation and means of communication has led to more efficient production, improved quality, and stability of supply to our valued customers.

The company is privately owned by Óttar Yngvason, the founder of the company, and his son Yngvi Óttarsson.
